2 Peter 1:4 « Through (his glory and power), he has bestowed on us the precious and very great promises, so that through them you may come to share in the divine nature, after escaping from the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire. » (NAB)

All week we have been talking about the war that is raging inside of us and the power of temptation.  But as we begin today to prepare to come to God’s house this Sunday it is important to remember that God has not left us alone in this battle.  Through his glory and power he has bestowed on us the precious and very great promises….  God is so faithful; and He is faithful to you.  Yes, this battle is at times very hard.  But every great victory follows a battle hard fought.  You will fight; and you will win.  You will win because you will not fight with your own power, but with the Word of God as your sword.

It is through the great promises that we become partakers of the very nature of God.  His presence begins to flow through our soul which in turn diminishes our attraction to sin.  The power of His truth works to break the power of the devil’s lies through which he has kept us bound to the flesh.

The power of God which is working inside of you is so much more powerful that the power of sin that is working through your flesh.  The downfall of Adam and his wife was not that the forbidden fruit was so beautiful.  It was because they stopped looking at the fruit on the tree of life which was right next to the forbidden tree.

When we take our eyes off of God’s word and God’s presence and we run only on the power of our human will, we will always run short of the goal.  My friend the rich and eternal promises of God are standing right next the lies of the devil.  Take your eyes off of the lies, and begin to focus on the truth.  Stop rehearsing in your mind what the world says about you, and start repeating what the Bible says about you.
