Romains 13:11 « And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. » NIV
Do you know that weird feeling you get sometimes in the middle of the afternoon when the room is super hot, it seems that there just isn’t any air, and you feel real drowsy? Well, there is a spiritual condition that is just like that. It is called spiritual comatose! And most Christians in the west suffer from it to varying degrees.
So my question to you is: What are you slumbering in? What is it that has dampened your ability to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit; what is it that has blurred your spiritual vision; what have you surrendered parts of your soul to which have caused the fire in your heart to cool to a faint glow?
Sure you are born again, and if you were to die, you would probably go to God’s heaven. But why isn’t heaven burning inside you right now? Why doesn’t the name of Jesus cause your eyes to glow with a flame of passion? Why has indifference once again gained the control of your will?
Why is it that the phrase “Consume in moderation” only seems to apply to your relationship with God and not the pleasures of this world? Why is it that we have a better turn out for a barbeque than we do for a fast? Why is it that when we announce a visiting prophet the building is packed out; but when we announce an all-night prayer meeting we are happy to get a handful?
These words may seem a bit harsh, right here in the beginning of the fast. If you think I’m trying to shock you – you are absolutely right. But we have no time to waste! We have already wasted more than we should have. It is time to awaken from our comatose state of spiritual slumber; for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed!
