Developing a spirit of worship (2)

« He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord. » (Psalm 40:3)« Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly » (Psalm 149:1)When you receive a greeting card, for your birthday or at the end of the year, isn’t it true that you are first interested in what is written by hand, even sometimes before reading the printed text? This is because the sender’s words are more personal and therefore more touching. You can hear his heart in the handwritten lyrics. And you will certainly keep such a card to reread it from time to time.

Likewise, the Lord is touched by the song which springs from your heart, even more than a song projected on a screen, printed in a book, or repeated mechanically with a recording. Even if you don’t know music theory, you can « borrow » the melody of a known composition and let your heart sing. These spontaneous and sincere words create a « new song ». It is a habit to cultivate at home, and when you are comfortable doing it at home, you will be more apt to do it in the congregation! Every new song contributes to the anointing of worship!

We are entering a season where many new songs will come forth, for the Holy Spirit wants to fill our hearts with new revelations which are subsequently translated into songs of praise and worship. Not all of them will be on an album or added to your church repertoire. Sometimes a worship song is simply the interpretation of what the worshiper is saying by singing in tongues! Jesus said: « Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. » A new song is like a river of living water that irrigates the atmosphère! The prophet Isaiah said: « Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. » (Isaiah 43:18-19) It is time to let those rivers flow!

ACTION POINT : Starting today, include a time of singing in tongues in your daily time of worship. If you don’t speak in tongues yet, ask the Father to baptise you in the Holy Spirit (and reread Luke 11:10-13). Then open your heart and your mouth and let the new song rise up and spring forth!

PRAYER TARGET : Ask God to uncap within you the river of living water and remove the accumulated « sand » of fears or worries, or even a religious spirit, and settled in. Take authority, in the name of Jesus, against every enemy that wants you to keep your mouth shut through fear and intimidation.
